Week 17-19

Since i going to be out of the country next week, i'm going to go ahead and post the next couple of weeks.

Week 17: Onion

Baby's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. The umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes are now topped by one-of-a-kind prints.

Week 18: Sweet Potato

Your fetus has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to you), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, baby's finally big enough that you'll be able to feel those movements soon.

Week 19: Mango

Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

How Big is Baby: the size of an onion
Total Weight Gain: as of 12/10 i was up 12lbs from my pre-preggo weight.

Stretch Marks: i think they are faintly making their way into my life (and onto my tummy)
Sleep: i've had a really hard time find a good position to sleep in, but i (at the advice of some friends) started sleeping with a large pillow supporting me, and it's made so much difference

Blimey! Baby T's first overseas trip!!!

Soooo, D and I are going to spend Christmas in London this year!!! There's no special reason that we picked London other than neither one of us have ever been (I've been to Paris, and Santander, Spain; but D has never left the country), and we thought this would be a great time to take a trip considering Dec is always slow in the office and Baby T has not arrived and taken over our lives yet. :) We go home every yr for Christmas/New Years, but it's always a rushed, stressful time since we are trying to spend as much time as possible with family and friends. So we wanted to take this time to spend some QT alone, and experience something new. Also, I'm madly in love with everything British, so I'm hella excited!!!! :)

We leave NEXT WEEK! And we'll be gone from Dec 16 - Dec 30. Right now we plan to spend a couple of days in Bath, and the majority of the time in London! Can't wait to be ubber-touristy and take tons of pics, especially of some Harry Potter landmarks (because, yes, I am a "Pothead" - lol).

16 Week Belly Shot

Week 16: Baby Avocado

Watch what you say... tiny bones forming in baby's ears mean the little one can now pick up your voice. Eyebrows, lashes and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming. And, if you're interested, an ultrasound might be able to determine gender.

week 14 and 15

week 14: lemon
Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

week 15: orange

Continuing the march towards normal proportions, baby's legs now outmeasure the arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Your fetus is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though you probably still can't feel the movements.

How Big is Baby: the size of a lime
Total Weight Gain: as of 11/14 i was up 10lbs. i actually lost a lb or 2 since the week before i was up 12lbs.

Stretch Marks: nope
Sleep: well, it's getting more difficult to find a comfortable position in which to fall asleep. and i am still waking up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom.
Best Moment this Week: i'm finally in the 2nd trimester.
Food Cravings: my taste is still very fickle. i'm currently very much over eatting out. and i've finally been able to make dinner for myself the past couple of nights.
Gender: ?
Labor Signs: n/a
Belly Button: still there ;)

What I'm looking forward to: our 2nd appt on dec 3rd

Weeks 11-13

week 11: lime

Your fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future.

week 12: plum
As you move into the second trimester, baby shifts into the growth and maturation stage. After weeks in the critical development stage, almost all of baby's systems are fully formed.

week 13: peach
Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords... savor this, their non-functional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with a head now only one third the size of the body. Intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby's tummy. (Much more convenient.)

God bless you, Citizens of Humanity!

so i decided to make a "splurge" purchase, and buy a nice pair of overly priced, designer maternity jeans. why? well, because i deserve it, right? shoot, i'm doing all the work over here!! and none of my pants fit me seeing as i'm already up 10lbs, so i had to find some jeans that flatter the ever-growing lady lumps (in the back and in the front - lol). so i went to nordstroms online, and made my purchase. a pair of citizens of humanity maternity jeans. i was so excited when they came in, and even more excited when i tried them on! i felt awesome! and they made my tush look like a baby pumpkin. definitely worth every penny i paid for them!! :)

Introducing Baby T

I know, I know, I suck at updating! :(

Well we had our u/s appt this morning. OMG, what a surreal experience! Dr said that baby looks healthy and everything looks great. Baby's heartbeat was 164 bpm. We got some really good pics. At one point we were able to see baby dancing around (or flopping like a fish - it all looks the same at that size). I think that was the freakiest moment. I definitely felt like I was acting out a scene of the movie "Alien." And it was so weird that I couldn't feel any movement, but of course it's only 4 cm big, so I'm sure it's hard to feel anything moving that is that big.

Here are some of the pics we got today:

Weeks 9 and 10

Wk 9: Green Olive

Your little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. Adding to the excitement, a Doppler ultrasound device might be able to pick up the beating heart. With basic physical structures in place and increasingly distinct facial features, baby is kind of starting to look like... well... a baby!

Wk 10: Prune

With bones and cartilage starting to form and vital organs beginning to function, baby is making major progress. Body length will almost double in the next three weeks, and arm joints are now working. (Soon, legs will too.)

Source: the bump

10 wk status

How Big is Baby: the size of a prune
Total Weight Gain: 9 lb as of 10/24
Maternity Clothes: last weekend i ended up buying a bella band since none of my work pants fit. if you don't know what it is, it's pretty much a band that goes over the top of your pants so that you can keep your pants undone underneath and no one will be the wiser.
Stretch Marks: nope
Sleep: i'm always exhausted these days. i sleep alright. i still have to get up at least 1x a night to use the bathroom. and it's a bit hard for me to get comfortable at first, but once i get comfortable i sleep fine.
Best Moment this Week: i don't really have one yet.
Food Cravings: lately i've been craving salad. but that changes daily. my tastes are very fickle.
Gender: ?
Labor Signs: n/a
Belly Button: still there ;)
What I miss: liking food...
What I'm looking forward to: our 1st appt on nov 5
Weekly Wisdom: baking soda and water do wonders for heartburn.
Milestones: i'm in the double-digit weeks now.

Week 8: Raspberry

Your baby is growing like mad, putting on about a millimeter every day and continuing to straighten out in the trunk. Though you can't feel it yet, baby is moving those little arms, legs and (now only slightly) webbed fingers and toes like crazy.

Week 7: Blueberry

Baby's brain -- both hemispheres! -- is growing fast, generating about 100 new cells every minute. Arms and legs are emerging as joints start to form, and a permanent set of kidneys (baby's third!) is now in place.

Scary week...

Last week was a pretty scary week for us. Tues i started bleeding, not heavily, but definitely more than just light spotting, and enough to concern me. i spoke with my doc, and she pretty much told me that it could be nothing, or it could be something bad, and only time would tell. so after going home, and freaking myself out by looking up things on the internet, i called the doc again! she was very patient with me, and calmed my fears and i decided to just take it easy and wait it out.

over the next couple of days, i continued to bled/spot, but there was never any cramping associated with the bleeding, and my pregnancy symptoms remained, so that gave us hope (after thinking the worse when all this started on tues). i even started to get some morning sickness (which really blows), so we are remaining positive that things will work out. we were thinking about starting to tell some of our friends, but after last week we will definitely be waiting until after our 1st doc appt (nov 5th), to let the cat out of the bag.

How Big is Baby: the size of a sweet pea
Total Weight Gain: ugh, i'm up 5 lbs. i weighed myself on tues and then again on sat, and totally didn't see that coming
Maternity Clothes: not yet
Stretch Marks: nope
Sleep: omg, the fatigue/exhaustion has come back full force. by 9pm i can hardly keep my eyes open. and i still have to routinely get up once during the middle of the night to empty the bladder.
Best Moment this Week: i'm thinking there won't be one. i have to go to CA tomorrow for work, and i'm worried my m/s will affect my trip
Movement: none, but i'm still getting occasional cramps
Food Cravings: i hate food. i guess i've hit the m/s phase of the pg, because everything i look at looks disgusting to me. the queasiness is very subtle, and i have to make sure that i'm eating about every hour or i start to feel gross.

weeks 3-5

weeks 3-4: poppyseed

In week 3, sperm meets egg, and voila: conception! Your little zygote sets off on a six-day trek through your fallopian tubes, dividing and redividing into identical cells as it travels to your uterus.

In week 4, now safe in your womb, the ball of cells (blastocyst) splits in two, becoming the
embryo and the placenta. The amniotic sac and fluid are forming around baby, and will act as a cushion for the next eight months.

week 5: appleseed

Your embryo (looking kind of like a tadpole) is starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive). Baby's presence in your uterus triggers production of hCG (the hormone detected by pregnancy tests)... which triggers production of other hormones like estrogen and progesterone... which trigger all those great symptoms you've probably been noticing!

It's official...

we're going to have a baby! if britney spears and kevin federline can raise a child(ren) so can we - lol. ok, seriously, i'm kidding (about the britney/kfed part, not the pregnant part). we found out last week, so of course, i decided to start a blog about it! i would have incorporated it into my other blog, but since we've only told our parents/siblings, we didn't want to spoil the surprise for anyone else reading my other blog. so obviously the focus of this blog is going to be about my pregnancy journey, which will hopefully be rather uneventful.
